    1. Szechwan peppercorns are rust coloured with hair-thin stems and open ends. The dried berries resemble tiny beechnuts measuring 4 - 5 mm in diameter. Sichuan pepper has a unique aroma and flavour that is not hot or pungent like black or white pepper, or chili peppers, but has slight lemony overtones and creates a tingly numbness in the mouth. Recipes often suggest lightly toasting and then crushing the tiny seedpods before adding them to food.

    1. Star anise, as the name suggests, is star-shaped. It is hard, about an inch high, with five to ten (usually eight) segments and a dark brown rust-like colour. Star anise is often used to flavour slow-cooked dishes in Indian and Chinese cuisine too.

10 cinnamon sticks? What sort of a measure is that for a cook? What size stick, for bog''s sake specify something, length, volumetric measure, weight..
